Republicans are Intellectually Bankrupt on Healthcare

Sunday night, three Republican Senators attempted to describe their contingency plan if the Supreme Court were to rule for the plaintiffs in the King v. Burwell lawsuit over Obamacare subsidies. Unfortunately, their plan is nonexistent. Their letter is nothing more than a love note to the Supreme Court assuring the justices that it would be okay to strike down the health care subsidies provided to Americans by Healthcare.gov.

Yet, the Senators point out that 6 million Americans would lose their subsidy and likely the ability to afford health insurance. A 2014 study demonstrated that for every 830 people gaining health insurance, 1 life would be saved. The counter factual is also true. If the Supreme Court rules against the administration in this case, over seven thousand Americans will die.

Republicans have proven to be intellectually bankrupt on healthcare since their 1993 health plan (co-sponsored by Senator Hatch) was dusted off and transformed into Obamacare, The blood of American citizens –greater than the number of soldiers killed in the Global War on Terror – will be on the hands of those Senators and the remainder of the Republican party, for failing to bring an actionable plan to fix health care.
